I want to tell you something I don't see a lot of people in this space admit: I got played. Not scammed exactly, but misled. I paid a pretty penny for business credit coaching that turned out to be a whole lot of talk with nothing to back it up. No handouts. No documentation. No books. Just phone calls that only happened when I made them happen.

If I didn't call, nothing moved. And after two or three months of that, I had to ask myself a hard question: if I stopped calling, would he even notice?

The answer was no. And that told me everything I needed to know.

The Moment I Knew It Wasn't Working

It wasn't one big moment. It was a slow realization. Our personalities clashed. There was no structure. No written roadmap I could follow to make sure I was staying on track or making progress. Every time I got off a call, I felt like I had talked about building business credit without actually doing any of it.

The Hard Truth

A lot of people in the business credit space are selling the dream without giving you the tools to build it. They hook you with the idea and leave you with nothing to actually follow. Hooks with no bait.

So I stopped calling. I felt that familiar feeling a lot of entrepreneurs know well: another idea gone bad. Another program that didn't deliver. I put business credit on the shelf and moved on with my life.

The Detour That Changed Everything

A few years passed. I took a job that put me in the middle of the commercial cleaning industry, helping other business owners go after their dreams. And something unexpected happened: the more I helped them, the more fulfilled I felt.

I realized I had knowledge that people needed. Knowledge that could actually help someone get started, stay on track, and build something real. So I wrote my first book, "A Clean Start with Commercial Cleaning."

Writing that book changed something in me. It wasn't just the accomplishment of finishing it. It was knowing that someone out there who felt stuck could pick it up and find a clear path forward. Something I could have used years earlier when I was trying to figure it all out myself.

The Shift

That book showed me that my purpose wasn't just to build things for myself. It was to document what I learned and put it in people's hands so they didn't have to figure it out the hard way.

Coming Full Circle

After that first book, I started hearing people talk about business credit again. And I remembered: I still need to work on my own. The unfinished business was still there.

This time I approached it differently. Instead of paying someone to tell me what to do on a phone call with no structure, I researched it myself. I went deep. I used every resource I could find, cross-referenced what I learned, and started putting it together into something that made sense.

And then I did what I knew how to do: I wrote it down.

My second book, "The Business Credit System," is everything I wish someone had handed me the first time around. Not a phone call. Not a video series locked behind a paywall. A real, written, step-by-step guide that you can follow at your own pace, refer back to, and actually use.

Why I'm Doing This in Public

Here's the part that matters most: I wrote the book before I had finished building my own credit profile. Not because I was trying to fake it, but because I had done the research, I understood the process, and I knew the information was solid.

But I also knew that the most powerful thing I could do was show the work. Not just teach it. Actually do it, in public, so that anyone following along could see that this is a real process with real timelines and real steps.

That's what this blog is. That's what Positive Gaines is. Not a guru telling you what to do from a distance. Someone in the same position you're in, one step ahead at most, with a written roadmap in hand and the receipts to back it up.

Where I Am Right Now

LLC formed, EIN in place, D&B number established, Quill account open, Spark Business card active, and waiting on my D&B address correction to finalize before I apply to additional net-30 vendors. Everything documented. Everything real.

If you've been sold hooks with no bait before, I get it. I've been there. That's exactly why I do things the way I do them. No mystery. No gatekeeping. Just the process, laid out clearly, with someone walking through it right alongside you.

That's the whole point.
